Blog post - Inngot and Adastra launch new alliance for Malaysia, improving access to IP valuation

Inngot CEO Martin Brassell is participating in a hybrid event, Intangible Asset Finance & Valuation, taking place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 27 July 2023.

The online and in person session has been co-organised by leading South East Asian IP firm, Adastra, and EUROCHAM Malaysia, an alliance of EU chambers of commerce which represents the EU business community in Malaysia.

The event starts at 2.30pm Malaysian time (MYT) and runs until 5.30pm MYT (7.30 to 10.30 British Summer Time/BST).

Other speakers include: Neil Bellamy, national head of Technology, Media & Telecoms (TMT) at NatWest Bank in the UK; Dato Sri Mohan Kodivel, managing director of Adastra IP; Vincent Soh, co-founder and CEO of Malaysian finance group MoneySave; and representatives from leading Malaysian banks and finance companies, financial advisers, tech and healthcare companies and innovation agencies.

Areas to be covered will include IP-based finance trends and strategies, global case studies looking at companies which have successfully used IP valuations for funding purposes and the role of IP in peer to peer funding. There will also be a live interview with Neil Bellamy from NatWest UK around how the bank uses intangibles to inform funding decisions, and another with Soft Space, Malaysia’s leading fintech, on its fundraising journey.

Inngot specialises in IP monetisation and IP-based finance and has worked in Malaysia since 2013. It was involved alongside UK innovation charity NESTA in advising on the creation of Malaysia’s ground-breaking National Corporate Innovation Index (NCII), which concerned the development and calibration and launch of a tool to quantify the ‘return on innovation’ being achieved by participating Malaysian PLCs.

Martin Brassell is a world-recognised expert on IP and intangible assets and their use in securing business finance, particularly for SMEs.

His research and policy work includes co-writing two reports for the OECD – Secured lending for SMEs: making effective use of registries and intangibles (OECD, 2022) and Fostering the Use of Intangibles to Strengthen SME Access to Finance (OECD, 2019); co-writing the UK IPO’s Banking on IP? and Hidden Value reports; and co-writing a book for Oxford University Press, Economic Approaches to Intellectual Property. In 2021, he was included in the IAM Strategy 300 list of the world’s leading IP strategists.

In addition to research and policy projects, Martin also has real-world practical experience of running IP-rich businesses and of working as a high-level business coach and advisor on IP, IP valuation and strategic management.

Inngot and Adastra announced an alliance to help Malaysian companies better understand intellectual property and intangible asset value in January 2023. By providing access to Inngot’s unique online IP tools, this new arrangement makes it easier for innovative Malaysian businesses to determine what their most valuable assets are worth, and explain that value to financiers, stakeholders, partners and potential licensees.
