IP experts including Inngot deliver EU Masterclasses

Inngot is again delivering part of a series of “Train the Trainers” masterclasses covering the European Commission IP pre-diagnostic (IPPD) service. The online sessions are organised by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), on behalf of the European Commission.

Inngot was asked as an IP expert in the field of valuation and commercialisation and is one of two external IP experts delivering training.

Inngot will be represented by Dr Alison Orr who will be sharing best practices on IP management, strategy and valuation in the interactive training session, scheduled to take place on February 24 2021.

Approximately 120 delegates will attend, from National Patent Offices, IP lawyers, the EUIPO and the European Commission.

Dr Orr gained her BSc (Hons) Molecular Biology and D.Phil. Clinical Medicine from the Universities of Glasgow and Oxford. She is a part-qualified patent attorney, and worked in private practice before moving into the world of IP commercialisation. She spent many years working on IP matters with the European Commission and other EU stakeholders as part of her role in the Enterprise Europe Network (now Innovate UK Edge in the UK) and also lectures in IP and international business at Sheffield Hallam University’s Business School.

WHAT IS IPPD/IP AUDIT? An IP pre-diagnostic (IPPD) or IP audit is a tool that can help SMEs see the benefits of IP in their individual context and show them how they can integrate IP into their business strategy.

IPPD was a pilot programme initially rolled out in some EU countries, based around and building on experience from similar audit schemes (e.g. the UK IPO’s ‘IP Audits Plus’ scheme and initiatives from France’s INPI and the European Patent Office).  The aim of IPPD is to have a network of business advisers on hand to raise awareness within the EU SME community of IP and wider intangible assets family, and the value they can deliver.

IP GRANTS FOR EU SMEs IPPD is now part of the EUIPO’s ‘Ideas Powered for Business SME Fund’ launched in January 2021. This 20 million grant scheme for EU SMEs offers financial support such as 75% off IP pre-diagnostic services (IP scan) or 50% off trade mark and design application fees (before the EUIPO).

IP GRANTS FOR UK SMEs – Although this SME Fund is only available to EU SMEs, UK SMEs can benefit from similar IP support schemes available in the UK, which can help them by subsidising costs for IP audits and IP advice. Inngot has extensive experience of advising SMEs on such IP support schemes and can introduce to such schemes where eligible.
