Inngot and Adastra launch new alliance for Malaysia, improving access to IP valuation

Blog post - Inngot and Adastra launch new alliance for Malaysia, improving access to IP valuation

UK-based IP specialist Inngot and Malaysian IP services firm Adastra have announced an alliance to help Malaysian companies better understand intellectual property and intangible asset value. By providing access to Inngot’s unique online IP tools, this new arrangement makes it easier for innovative businesses to determine what their most valuable assets are worth, and explain that value to financiers, stakeholders, partners and potential licensees.

Adastra adds value to the Inngot platform by providing local support for Malaysian businesses, backed by its own specialist insights into the Malaysian IP landscape and detailed understanding of the valuation process. As a highly regarded valuation firm, Adastra also brings a wealth of connections that can help communicate IP value to important new interest groups, particularly banks and specialist lenders.

Martin Brassell, Co-Founder and CEO of Inngot, comments: “We first became aware of Adastra nearly 10 years ago, when we started providing tools and services to Malaysian and Singaporean companies. We’re excited by the potential of Malaysia’s entrepreneurial businesses, and delighted to be working with such a reputable and well-known company. Both of us are committed to making IP valuation and monetisation more accessible and affordable for growth companies across Malaysia”.

Dato Sri Mohan Kodivel, Founder and Managing Director of Adastra IP, says: “Inngot has been doing pioneering work in the area of IP finance and valuation since 2007 and, to date, has rolled out several sophisticated solutions in helping businesses, especially SMEs, to unlock and demonstrate the commercial potential of their intangible assets.”

He adds: “We are excited to partner with Inngot to provide these solutions and we find it especially timely and critical with the increasing importance of IP in many growing economies in ASEAN and India. This partnership will expand and enhance our existing full suite of IP services to include software tools for IP identification and valuation.”

In anticipation of this formal announcement, Martin Brassell recently took part in a hybrid event, Intangible Assets & Brand as Business Value Driver, organised by Adastra. In November 2022, he spoke at the launch of WIPO’s Action Plan for IP-based finance, and is the lead consultant on a new Caribbean pilot aimed at harnessing these intangible assets as collateral for lending. He is also the author of a number of influential reports, including OECD’s recent publication, Secured lending for SMEs.

Inngot, launched in 2007, specialises in IP monetisation and IP-based finance and has developed the world’s first online IP identification and valuation platform. These have helped SMEs around the world find £1.1 billion (US$1.4bn, €1.25bn, MYR5.8bn) in previously ‘hidden’ value. Inngot’s standardised valuation reports are increasingly used by banks and other lenders as validation in the IP-based lending process.

It also offers bespoke IP services for companies and conducts high-level research on IP and IP monetisation for government agencies, NGOs and other international bodies. It has worked in Malaysia since 2013, and, with UK innovation charity NESTA, was instrumental in the development of Malaysia’s National Corporate Innovation Index (NCII), which involved the development, calibration and launch of a tool to quantify the ‘return on innovation’ being achieved by participating Malaysian corporations.

Adastra IP, established in 2004, is a leading Malaysian IP firm which operates across several ASEAN countries and India. It advises clients on patent, trademark, copyright and industrial design issues, including IP drafting and filing, IP search and analytics, infringement analysis, technology commercialisation and IP valuation. It regularly appears in lists of leading international IP services firms, such as the IAM 1000 and Asia IP Stars.
